About All India Institute of Speech and Hearing

Established in 1965 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) has emerged as a national leader in the field of communication disorders. Located in the culturally rich city of Mysore, Karnataka, our institute is dedicated to providing comprehensive services encompassing clinical care, education, and research.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with speech, language, hearing, and related disorders through innovative rehabilitation, advanced research, and high-quality education. We serve a diverse population from across India and neighboring countries.

AIISH functions as an autonomous institute under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. We are recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Our Clinical & Rehabilitation Services

We offer a wide spectrum of diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services for all age groups.

Audiology Services

Comprehensive hearing evaluations including pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, impedance audiometry, otoacoustic emissions, and auditory brainstem response testing. Hearing aid fitting, programming, and aural rehabilitation.

Speech-Language Pathology

Assessment and therapy for speech disorders (articulation, fluency, voice), language disorders (aphasia, developmental language delay), and related conditions like dysphagia, cleft lip/palate, and neurological communication disorders.

Neurogenic Communication Disorders

Specialized rehabilitation for individuals with communication deficits resulting from stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, dementia, and other neurological conditions. Includes cognitive-linguistic therapy.

Early Intervention & Pediatric Services

Newborn hearing screening, diagnostic audiology for children, intervention for speech and language delays, autism spectrum disorders, auditory processing disorders, and parent training programs.

Academic Programs

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

Speech and Hearing – A 4-year undergraduate program that provides foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, acoustics, audiology, and speech-language pathology. Includes extensive clinical practicum.

Duration: 4 Years | Seats: 30

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology – A 2-year postgraduate program with specializations in either Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology. Emphasizes advanced clinical skills, research methodology, and evidence-based practice.

Duration: 2 Years | Seats: 25 each

Doctoral Programs (Ph.D.)

Research-based doctoral programs in various areas of communication sciences and disorders. Candidates work under expert guidance on cutting-edge research projects contributing to the field's knowledge base.

Areas: Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Neuroscience of Communication, Rehabilitation Sciences.

Admission Information

Admissions to all academic programs are based on national-level entrance examinations conducted by the institute. The application process typically opens in March each year. Eligibility criteria include relevant educational qualifications from recognized boards/universities.
